Bill Correira - BC Woo,
Multi-Media Artist

A beloved local artist, Bill Correira, also known as BC Woo, has lived and worked in St Petersburg since 1976. BC Woo began as a graphic artist, his work influenced at an early age by his father, William Correira, a well known scrimshaw artist whose work was recognized throughout Hawaii, Nantucket, and Maine. Under the guidance of his father, BC Woo developed his own technique and was encouraged to exhibit his work.

Now a full time artist, BC Woo creates his pieces using mixed media on granite and marble. His focus remains on figure studies and marine life that is indigenous to the area. It is on the face of the stone that Bill is able to join the natural beauty of the subject with the given nature of the stone to create a work of art that reflects both its strength and vulnerability. BC Woo is affectionately known as “the fish guy” due to his prolific paintings of sea life that are widely recognized. He regularly paints live at local restaurants and during charity events. BC Woo paintings and mixed media art can be found at galleries throughout Tampa Bay, and his work is held in private collections throughout the world. Gallery Woo, his private gallery space, is now open in the newly renovated Crislip Arcade - part of the city’s dynamic new artist enclave “The 600 Block.”
